Political Cartoons from the Past

Our nation has experienced times of trouble before and political cartoonists such as Thomas Nast lampooned the political and big business evil doers with brilliant cartoon images. The evils of the Standard Oil monopoly, Tammany Hall, Boss Tweed and others appeared weekly in newspapers across the country.

Here are some of those famous cartoons from the past. There are some that served to point out the evil but many appeared to praise the best efforts of men like President Abraham Lincoln.

Funny Political Cartoons and Images

It's getting back to crazy time in America. Election season is swinging into full gear and political cartoonists are taking stabs at everyone's favorite candidates and the issues of the day. The political cartoon is both funny and serious. Pointing out the ridiculous often helps bring real social or political problems into the public eye.

People look and laugh at the images. Then they look harder and begin to realize the humor has a darker side and illuminates serious issues. If you would enjoy more political funny business check out my hub on Political Gag Gifts and Novelties. Enjoy the pictures but remember it's all in fun, except when it isn't.

....so that is what 50 looks like - lol lol - I am 53 and that is why I have the cat in my picture - to make me look younger - lol - well I love the care and effort you put into this world class presentation here - who dosen't like a good editorial cartoon because they're so timely and of the time and as they always say - a picture tells a thousand words (or stories) - great work here - it shows your savvy, intelligence and charm

Great Hub! Humorous cartoons are a great way to make people aware of what is going on in politic, economic and social issues in our country. When things are bad a little humor helps us keep going. Thanks.

Thanks Dobson, I love political humor because it allows us to keep politics in its proper place. The older ones like Nast editorial cartoons and caricatures are my favorites.

I have always enjoyed political cartoons. It requires you to have a fair understanding of the political climate to understand them all. Nice collection of 'toons here.
